Working towards a sustainable future - together

Please Note: This website is still a work in progress.

Collaboration principles

We’re excited to explore the possibility of collaborating with you! Before submitting your project proposal, we kindly ask that you review our collaboration principles. These principles guide our work and help us maintain a positive and productive partnership with all parties involved.

  1. Vision: We work with non-profit organizations and individuals who share our vision for creating a sustainable future.
  2. Resources: Our goal is to provide our expertise and services to those who may not have the financial resources to pay for them.
  3. Alignment: We may decline projects that do not align with our values or mission.
  4. External costs: The individual or organization we’re collaborating with will be responsible for covering any external costs associated with the project, such as hardware or third-party services. We will provide an estimate of these costs before proceeding with the project. Please note that these estimates are not definitive and may be subject to change based on the needs and scope of the project.
  5. Licensing*: All projects undertaken by the initiative will be licensed under the GNU General Public License (GNU GPL). This means that the software and hardware designs resulting from the project will be open source and freely available for others to use, study, and modify.
  6. Transparency: We believe in transparency and will share project progress and outcomes with the general public, unless otherwise agreed upon with the project owner.
  7. Estimate disclaimer: Estimates provided are not definitive and are subject to change based on the needs and scope of the project.
  8. Liability: While we will make every effort to meet agreed-upon project deadlines, we are not liable for missing deadlines or for any issues arising from change of scope, lack of skill or knowledge, or for events beyond our control, such as illness, natural disasters, or other unforeseeable circumstances. Please note that as this is voluntary work, we may have limited availability due to personal commitments or unforeseeable circumstances. While we will make every effort to meet agreed-upon project deadlines, we are not liable for any delays caused by these factors.
  9. Obligation: We are not obligated to take on any project proposals, and reserve the right to decline projects for any reason.
  10. Termination: Either party can terminate a project at any time with written notice.
  11. Continual improvement: We are committed to continually improving these collaboration principles and to ensuring that they reflect our shared values and aspirations. From time to time, we may need to update these principles to better serve our collaborators and the broader community. We will make every effort to communicate any changes to you and to seek your input on how we can enhance our collaboration. We value your feedback and appreciate your ongoing commitment to working with us toward a more sustainable future.

If you have any questions or concerns about these principles, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

*Open source and GNU GPL licensing

At Spark of Sustainability, we’re committed to creating a sustainable future for everyone. As part of that commitment, we’ve chosen to license all of our code, software, and hardware designs under the GNU GPL (General Public License).

This means that anyone who uses our code, software, hardware designs, or any other materials we’ve released under the GPL must also release their own derivative works under the same license. In other words, anyone who uses our work must also share their work freely and openly.

By choosing the GNU GPL, we’re promoting a culture of collaboration and openness. We believe that this is the best way to create sustainable solutions for the world’s most pressing problems. We also believe that everyone should have access to the tools they need to create a better future, regardless of their financial resources or technical expertise.

If you’re interested in using any of our code, software, or hardware designs, please be sure to read the terms of the GNU GPL carefully. We’re happy to answer any questions you may have about our licensing choices and what they mean for you.
